FAQs

FAQs

Here are some great questions we get asked a lot...

Plantable Paper

What is plantable paper?

Plantable paper is special handmade paper embedded with wildflower seeds. When the paper is planted in a pot of soil, wildflowers will grow from the paper.

Do you make the paper?

No, we source all our seed paper from a company in Winnipeg, Manitoba called Botanical Paperworks. Presently, they are the only seed paper factory in Canada and we are proud to work with them.

What is the seed paper made of?

All seed paper from Botanical PaperWorks is 100% made with donated material from a variety of sources such as local schools and business to help save trees and reduce waste sent to landfills. A large amount of the paper they are recycling into seed paper is also originally made from recycled material to be as eco-friendly as possible.

The bulk of the content is:

  • SFI Certified (comes from a company that is certified to the SFI 2015-2019 Fiber Sourcing Standard, or comes from recycled content, or from a certified forest. Must be from non-controversial sources.)
  • or FSC/Rainforest Alliance Certified paper (products from farms and forests are produced using environmentally and socially responsible practices).

They also use envelope clippings, which are 10%, 30% and 100% recycled content all mixed together.

How do I plant my paper?

Place your seed paper on soil that is slightly compressed, but not too hard-packed. Add 1/8 inch of soil on top of the paper and give it a good drink of water. After that, make sure it’s always moist and in a sunny spot. You should see sprouts within 7-10 days! Check out our Planting Your Pun page for more in depth instructions and information surrounding the planting process!

How long will my seed paper last before the seeds die?

For best germination results, seed paper should be planted within 2 years. It will still grow beyond that, but the germination rates will decline after that period. Store in a cool, dry place, to preserve the germination rates as long as possible.

When is the best time to plant my seed paper?

Spring is the best time to plant if you live in an area where the ground does not freeze. However, fall is ideal if you live in a climate where the ground stays frozen for several months. Botanical PaperWorks seed paper can be planted indoors year-round in a pot of soil near a window that gets plenty of sunlight.

Are the seeds safe for planting?

Yes, Botanical PaperWorks only uses seeds that are tested and approved for planting for planting in Canada, the US, EU, UK, New Zealand, Australia and many other countries worldwide.

They are accredited in the Canadian Phytosanitary Certification Program for Seeds (CPCPS) and are registered as a U.S. Exporter in the program. This means they ensure that the seeds brought into our facility are tested for purity by a CFIA or AOSA (Association of Official Seed Analysts) accredited seed testing laboratory to ensure that it meets the noxious weed requirements of the U.S. Federal Seed Act and can be imported into the United States.

Botanical PaperWorks plantable seed paper only contains seeds that are of the highest quality and germination. All the seeds are NON-GMO (genetically modified organism) and none of the seeds from Botanical PaperWorks are considered invasive in North America.

What are the seeds in Botanical Paperworks paper?

Botanical PaperWorks’ plantable seed paper contains the highest-quality mix of wildflower seeds. All of the seeds are tested for purity and meet the high standards of the United States Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The wildflower seed blend in plantable paper includes these species:

  • Bird’s Eye – Annual
  • Clarkia – Annual
  • Black Eyed Susan – Perennial
  • Catchfly – Annual
  • Snapdragon – Annual
  • Sweet Alyssum – Annual

Ordering Cards

How long does it take for my order to be fulfilled?

We guarantee an order fulfilment time of under 48 hours (though it's usually closer to under 24 hours) from the time of checkout, unless otherwise specified. If you have not received an email indicating that your order has been fulfilled by 48 hours following the time you placed your order, you may feel free to reach out with an inquiry at Leaf a Message. Please keep in mind that order fulfilment is not the same as shipping time - the shipping time frame begins at the moment you receive your order fulfilment email notification.

In the case of local pick-up, we are usually able to accommodate a same day or next-day pick-up. Send a text to 647-657-2697 if your require a quick turnaround, hopefully we will be able to accommodate!

Do you ship outside Toronto/Ontario?

Absolutely! Because of the accreditation in the Canadian Phytosanitary Certification Program for Seeds (CPCPS), we are able to ship our product internationally. Shipping outside of the province/country may incur longer wait times, but you will still get your order! When you have reached check-out, you will be prompted to input your shipping and billing information - at this point you will be invited to choose a shipping method that best suits your needs.

How will I know my order has shipped?

You will receive an email to the address you provided at check-out indicating when your order has been fulfilled and sent out for shipping.

How long does it take for my order to ship?

The length of shipment typically depends on the shipping method you have selected at check-out. If you selected Standard Shipping, you will not receive a tracking number for your order and can expect to receive your order in 5-8 business days from the time of fulfillment.  Otherwise, all other shipping services (ie. Priority, XPress Post, etc.) will indicate the timeframe of which you may expect to receive your order from the time of fulfilment.

My order hasn't arrived yet, what do I do?

First, double check to see if you are still within the shipping timeframe that you selected at check-out. Reminder: if you selected Standard Shipping, you will not receive a tracking number for your order and can expect to receive your order in 5-8 business days from the time of fulfillment. If you are outside the suggested timeframe, please send us an email to info@sowsweetgreetings.ca and we will either find out where your order is or send a replacement ASAP!

Do you offer local pick-up?

We do offer local pick-up at two locations in the GTA, and one more soon to come in Hamilton, ON! Check out our Where We Grow page to see the locations for local-pickup, and where to find us in stores.

There is no minimum or maximum card order for pick-up or shipping. If you are a retailer looking to place a bulk order, please get in touch with us at info@sowsweetgreetings.ca.

Where can I find your cards in store?

Like wildflowers in the spring, we are popping up in different places across the country! Check out our Where We Grow page to see all of our partnering vendors.

Please keep in mind that each retail location sells a limited selection of our designs and may vary from store to store! If there's a specific card you are looking for, we recommend reaching out first to the retailer directly to see if they carry the design in question - otherwise you can order it direct from our website.

Custom + Bulk Orders

I want to send my card direct to someone, can you put a message on the inside for me?

We can! Under each collection there is an option to select "Interior Personal Message" for an additional $2.00 - with this add-on you are invited to craft a personal message that will be printed in the font selection of your choice on the inside of the card.

Please note that you must select this add-on for any and all cards requiring interior messaging. For example, if you are purchasing three cards that are going directly to different recipients, you must add "Interior Personal Messaging" three times to your basket at check-out. Once you've completed and paid for your order please email your personalized message(s) to sowsweetgreetings@gmail.com as instructed in the description.

Do you do custom designs?

You bet! We can do custom designs in one-off orders at a cost of $20/card OR we offer bulk custom designs at a preferred rate.

If you are interested in ordering in bulk (ie. for an event), please get in touch with us at info@sowsweetgreetings.ca to share your vision - bulk custom orders are handled on a case-by-case basis.

For one-card custom orders, you will be required to select the product "Custom DESIGN - ONE CARD ONLY" and before check-out, follow the instructions to fill out a short questionnaire with regards to your design idea. The more detail you provide, the more accurate your custom design will be! You will receive an email after checkout confirming your idea has been received and any follow-up required for the design process. You can expect to see a preview of the graphic prior to printing to confirm all is well with the design.

Please Note: All custom orders may take up to 5 business days for processing.
